More than Monarchs Documenting Local Stories in the Disappearing Monarch Forests of Mexico Feb 13, 2007
To whom this may concern, I live in Mexico City but have a home in Jungapeo, Michoacan. Every time I go by the Monarch Sanctuary region we see an industrial plant that has been there for many years. This factory is owned by the firm Resistol and uses trees and tree waste as a primary good. Even though they claim that the timber they use comes from legitimate sources, the plant emits huge amounts of contaminants into the air and there are doubts regarding the legality of the timber they use. There are many timber sellers that obtain their permits illegally. For this reason, I consider it indispensable that this glue factory (Resistol) located on the Federal Highway Zitacuaro-Morelia (close to the town of Ocurio and after the turnoff to Angangueo) be closed as a precautionary principle for its timber and for contaminating the atmosphere of the Monarch Butterflies habitat. It is contradictory to have a factory that uses timber as a primary good in the Monarch Butterfly region. Thank you. Arnold Ricalde. Organi-K, A.C.
