Support to stop illegal logging.

Lourdes Jimenez Coronel
City Mayor
Zitacuaro, Michoacan

I hereby request your valuable intervention with operations against illegal logging the community of Crescencio Morales has been subject to, without having received support to this date.
I also want to let you know that the population I represent voluntarily has organized surveillance operations for our forest, since February this year, and as a result, on March 8th 3 trucks with wood from the core zone were stopped. At the end of March people external to our community were moved away without the support of our local authorities and on Tuesday, October 21st, 2003 a voluntary brigade stopped trucks loaded with wood in our forest called “palo errado”, I asked for military support and help from the police, as a last resource I asked for the support from the forestry commission that you represent, with no favorable response. Due to this, the community decided to burn down 5 trucks loaded with wood. This is why I ask that you act immediately, or else, we will continue to act by our own as we have been doing so far, without support from the local authorities and blaming them for any consequences since they have not listened to our complaints.
I greatly appreciate your support.

Sincerely,

Idilberto Gonzalez Claudio
Common Property President
